Ed Kittrell was born in Washington DC and raised in the DC Metro Area. Ed spent most of his childhood in SKYLINE, a neighborhood tucked away in the heart of Suitland MD. As a youth, Ed Kittrell faced his share of adversity and now talks freely about his issues growing up including life in a single parent home, the pressures of the streets and not to mention being molested 3 times by 3 seperate offenders before age 12. Dispite all of the obstacles he excelled in his academics as well as sports, basketball in particular.
After being offered a baskeball scolarship after High School Ed was forced to make a very critical descion. Forced to decide between taking the basketball scholarship and futhering his education or staying home to stand by his girlfriend and unborn child. After choosing to stay Ed didnt give up, instead he went on to receive an electronics degree from Test College, graduating top of his class.
Several years later, Ed would face one of the biggest obstacles of his life. It seems the pass would come back to haunt him. All of the issues growing up, combined with the pressures of the world took its toll and Ed slipped into a very deep depression. This condition lasted for several years and at that point Ed no longer seen any light at the end of the tunnel. A few months after loosing everything, his job, wife, car, family, and home Ed made up his mind that suicide was the answer. He would go on to attempted suicide 3 seperate times. It was after his 3rd unsuccessful attempt that he heard a voice from GOD telling him that he had a purpose for his life.
Ed persevered over the next few months and from that point on he set out to turn his tragedy into victory. After the death of a close friend, Kenny Riley, who died by suicide in 2007, Ed started on his lifes mission. In 2008 he founded an organization called 1 LYFE @ A TIME for young kids and young adults in the urban communities who suffered from depression and his ultimate goal was to prevent youth suicides. Over past 2 years Ed has been a guest of countless radio and tv shows, as well as a guest speaker at numerous churchs, fund rasiers, and community events, trying to raise awareness and educate the community about depression. He has also hosted several suicide awareness events, basketball tournaments, and entertainment shows throughout PG and Montgomery County MD, The District Of Columbia, and Virginia.
Ed has dedicated his life to saving others. He currently a committed board member of SPEAK, a proud partner of the Christopher Foundation, as well as a dedicated member of DC CARES, a commitee created to prevent youth suicides in DC. Ed's latest link was made with the community based group Simply Exhale Inc to help the community on relationship issues and in March 2010 teamed up with Big Sis & Co. as part of the Boys to Men Enpowerment Mentor Program to mentor young teens. Ed also serves as the co-producer of the hit TV Show called "SKYE'S THE LIMIT" which was created as a platform to educate, uplift ,and empower the coummunity. Today Ed wants people to know that depression is treatable and suicide is preventable. Ed hopes to propel 1 LYFE to new heights in the next few years focusing on saving as many young people as possible! Remember that together we can change the world, 1 LYFE @ A TIME.
